Super Cat Fishing

Posting this idea so that I'm committed to making it.

Once I actually have something up and running I'll post screens and whatnot at least once a day.

For now, here's a bullet list of things the game will include:
• a boat
• water
• a cat
• fish
• a better title

Things the game will not include:
• catfish
• a fishing rod

This is going to be my second game I've ever made, the first one being my LD26 game. I will be using Unity3D, Blender, Pixexix, Photoshop, and probably Sunvox for music.

Let's go fishing everyone.

I have no idea what I'm doing, so I spent the entire week learning how to model/animate/import into Unity.

The idea originally started out as a game where you play as a cat who ties itself to a winch on a boat, dives into the water, and tackles/wrangles fish Shadow of the Colossus style. I still really like the idea, but damn, that's a bit larger scope than I can handle with 2 games on the backburner and 2 more on the horizon.

The new idea is a more arcade-y style game where you are on a dock, trying to catch fish that fly over your head. Here's my screenshot for Saturday (don't worry I kinda know what I'm doing now).

Millions of Fishes, Fishes for Me

Super Cat Fishing is done! actually I've renamed it to Millions of Fishes, Fishes for Me because I like long titles and that song by The Presidents of the United States of America.

I totally cheated if this were a serious competition and went waaaay over time. I spent most of the last 3 weeks learning how to model, animate, texture, and use Unity, and spent all of today doing the background art and music since I'm last minute like that. The menu and gui stuff ain't pretty, but it's functional dammit. Instructions are in the game, and there are ONLINE LEADERBOARDS so that's a cool thing. I hope y'all enjoy playing, and I'm looking forward to getting to play all of your games!

Also I have no idea how to play flute and I'm pretty sure I was holding it backwards but I got the sounds out of it that I wanted soooo success? Okay I am going to sleep now.

My first thought when I ran the game: O_O

I'm impressed (and I wish I were this imaginative or talented <.<). I find the idea hilarious and the gameplay highly original and just fun. Also there's a surprising depth to it. First I was just hopping around, desperately confused, trying to grab anything at all. After a few tries I started focusing on the yellow fish. I remembered what I had learned in samurai school, I meditated for ten minutes, tried again and entered a state of unagi, everything slowed down and with deadly precision I started grabbing those yellow fish as if they were feathers slowly and gently dancing with the wind... sorry, I couldn't help it, that Asian theme and this hypnotizing music left a mark. <.<

Anyway, great stuff and I'm genuinely impressed by the fact how the game rewards precise grabs in this extremely confusing environment which makes grabbing anything at all very challenging at first. I'd love to see an extended and more refined version. :)

Edit: Darn it, and only now it occurred to me that those yellow fish aren't even the most valuable ones. >.<
