Premise
At the height of the Cold War, experimental Soviet Flying Fish have infiltrated mainland America. Armed with a net, you engage the SFFs in combat, or the Communists win!

Scope
A simple Arcade Mode. I'd love to add a story mode after the Jam.

Controls
A/D - Left/Right
W - Hold and release to jump. This will halt your left/right movement.

Update:
  • You shake violently when you charge your jump.
  • You have a net!
  • There are fish, which are animated with MATH.

Controls

M - Attack! Harmlessly swings your net at the moment.

Update: You now have no legs! Ground movement speed is negligible. You have "normal" speed once you're in the air. The mesh portion of the net will destroy any fish it hits when you swing it.

I've been trying to get the net to position/rotate properly relative to the player, and am almost there.

The web version is not up to date, I'll upload the changes after I've fixed the net rotation.

Made the decision that levels will be primarily vertical. Updated the latest online build to demonstrate this, which also shows off how platforms add to gameplay. Also fixed the net issues.

Rudimentary camera follows you

Next up is side collision, additional camera functionality (punctuated zooming, etc), and actual fish AI.

When I try to access your game it says:

Access denied. Your IP address [182.18.209.2] is blacklisted. If you feel this is in error please contact your hosting providers abuse department.


I'm in the office. This is probably because our Internet connection uses a dynamic IP and the previous bloke who happened to use that IP (directly or indirectly) was doing something malicious like spamming.

That's really odd. Can you visit the www.geekti.me domain at all? Hosted with Bluehost. If other people are having the same problem I'll start using Dropbox, but everyone I've sent it to so far had no problem.

And now we have more art!

The fish are highly aggressive now to add a serious challenge. They will slam you around and carry you through the air. Some take more than one hit to catch. Having difficulties with hitback, will continue to try to add this.

Camera zooms in and out based on your vertical velocity, and zooms in when you're charging your jump.

Where to begin with the updates...?

Added jetpacks.
  • Fish have health.
  • "-1" sprites fly when you deal damage.
  • Jetpack particle system
  • Big boss
  • Story/Controls Dialogue
  • "You won!" screen
  • New camera tricks to make everything all fun and pretty.
  • Added more buildings to flesh out the environment more.

Known bugs:
  • Sometimes you can get stuck in a platform. If you do, try to mash buttons.
