THE GAME IS FINISHED!Download the game here: http://www.haku.se/dump/haku_no_tsuri.zip
Note that you must have a nes/famicom emulator
to play it!
I developed it using FCEUX but any others should suffice.Gameplay:
The game didn't turn out as the initial pitch. It's more arcady now.
You play Haku (me) and you have to get as many points
as you can in around 7 minutes
(clock in the bottom right).
There's three fishing locations
and three versions of six different fish
(weak, normal, strong).
You can buy 8 pieces of equipment
with unique effects on your character at the village fishing shop.Video Links:

I actually got it to work on an actual famicom
: check out this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGcgcJneoRcManual:
I will hopefully create a manual tomorrow! As all other NES game you pretty much need a manual to play.
This manual will explain the fishing locations, the equipment, about tugging and snatching and other things that are not self explanatory in the game.PLEASE POST YOUR HIGHSCORES - PLAY THE GAME FOR 7 MINUTES TO GET YOUR SCORE!
Oh, and the game fits on a 24KB
cart - smallest game in the jam - should earn me some extra points?
The fact that it's possible to run the game on an actual NES
should net some cred as well =P
If I had more time I would've made the fishing scenes more action filled. Might do this in the future, in a version 1.1 or something!
Listen to the whole Soundtrack
I'm gonna make a famicom game presented as a fan translation of a strange JRPG that didn't make it to the west.
I've already started with the music and I will take a look at graphics before the actual jam starts.
I will also lift some code from my current project - so this one will be at least 50% cheating - I hope it's alright.
The release will be a rom file so you'll need an emulator or a flash card and a famicom to play it.
The game will play pretty much like a old school JRPG and Half-Minute Hero.
Buy gear > go fish > register biggest fish > sell other fish > repeat
Each stage has it's own fish to catch. Tournament (THPS1) style, there are other NPCs that try to get the same fish.
Beat three(ish) stages to beat the game - try to get gold medal in each to get best ending.
