Phantom Fishing

Postby d_durham » Wed May 15, 2013 11:16 am

I have half an idea around a kind of twitchy, puzzley fishing game about capturing ghost fishes underwater. Possibly for 1 or 2 players.
Will either stick with the title Phantom Fishing or maybe go with Phantom Fathom.

Decided to take part, despite not having much free time during/around the jam dates, so I might have to start/finish a little early.

OK, I've started tinkering.

Here's a first rough attempt at an idea for the main character.
A sort of underwater ghost buster with a fishing rod-like conduction pole.

Aw man, this sounds awesooome. The diver-ghostbuster idea is groovy, I can't wait to see what these phantom fish look like!

Sweet character sprite =)

At first I thought he had a huge afro, but then I realised it was a glass container. Obviously that wont be a problem when he is on a background and the user isn't an idiot ;)

Ghost fish sound awesome.

Ha ha, yeah it is supposed to be a helmet, but I'm a big fan of ambiguous sprite details (reminds me of games when I was a kid) so glad to hear you thought it was an afro. I'm also a fan of huge afros ;-)

Haven't put much thought into the ghost fish yet. I'm thinking maybe a classic cartoon style fish skeleton surrounded by some kind of spooky ectoplasmic glow effect.

I, too, thought it was an afro :P Could throw on some funky disco music to match his walk haha

I'm looking for someone to work with if you want any audio and music? Love the animation on this so far, and your previous games, particularly Matagi, very polished. This is the LD game I did music and sound for if you're interested in collaborating! http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-da ... w&uid=7984

So, Day 1 of the Jam. I haven't managed to do much, but I've have roughly laid out the screen elements (although looking at it now, I probably need to zoom back a little).
I've also started playing with the gameplay elements, but not much done yet.

Oh, I've also done a little bit more on my main character and got the basic animations done. I'm quite liking the orange colours set against the background, which will all be shades of blue.
